India for fast repatriation to resolve Rohingya crisis permanently

India has said it feels the necessity of immediate repatriation of forcibly displaced Rohingyas from Bangladesh to Myanmar as the neighbour of both the countries.

"Welfare of all lies in rapid, safe and sustainable repatriation of Rohingyas from Bangladesh to Myanmar," said Indian External Affairs Minister Dr Subrahmanyam Jaishankar in a letter to his Bangladesh counterpart Dr AK Abdul Momen, a foreign ministry press release said here today.

The Indian foreign minister highly appreciated Bangladesh's generosity and humanity shown by sheltering Rohingyas in Bangladesh.

Jaishankar reaffirmed India's commitment to stay beside Bangladesh and its people in the combat against Covid-19 pandemic.

He also wrote at the letter that bilateral partnership between Bangladesh and India would help in the development of the friendly relationship between two countries.

Bangladesh hosts over 1.1 million forcefully displaced Rohingyas in Cox's Bazar district and most of them arrived there since 25 August 2017 after a military crackdown by Myanmar, which the UN called a "textbook example of ethnic cleansing" and other rights groups dubbed as "genocide".
